This is a photograph of an adult smoking with a young child from the 1950s by Roger Mayne. I think the picture is ironic, because from the child’s expression, he thinks smoking is a funny thing. So I wanted to make this picture even more ironic. I changed the cigarette in the adult’s hand to a bubble tube. I let the adult blow bubbles and the child smoke. I think there is a sense in this painting that many adults are eager to return to childhood and children want to grow up.
