Our Flashback Friday Picks this week are from Carmela Cocuzza, our Managing Editor. She said after browsing all of the past pieces from fiction and art, “Him,” by Robin Roney, and “Reflections,” by Joy Blazofsky, stuck out the most. They captured her attention for very different reasons and she is excited to share with you on this week’s Flashback Friday platform!
Fiction: “Him” by Robin Roney

“This is truly such an incredible piece. The first paragraph pulls you into what you think is a love story: ‘I close my eyes as he kisses my cheek. The first time we met, his eyes were magnetic.’ However, it takes a dramatic and unexpected turn, later on when you read, ‘SMASH Heart beating fast, his body falls hard onto me as the glass from the lamp shatters over top of us.’ I really appreciated all the description and verbiage that transported you right into the story. All the paragraphs were nicely sized making the story really captivating and easy to follow. I think this is a great piece to feature in KLIO!”
Art: “Reflections” by Joy Blazofsky

“According to her bio, Joy Blazofsky majored in fine arts, drawing and painting and minored in psychology. I feel this piece could be interpreted in many different ways at a first glance. I love how she understood it as being in tune with reality and the way the lines are meant to ultimately be depicted as two portraits of herself reflecting each other.”
