Together with our sister print journal, Kalliope, Klio is excited to launch a YouTube channel!  Our Film Editor and Kalliope Liaison, Morgan Seiff, created the channel to feature exciting new creative content and to showcase the amazing videography talents of Penn State students and recent grads.

The first film we are featuring on the channel is by Sebastian Paul Vargas, who creates under the alias SPAULV. He is a Penn State senior specializing in the integration of self-produced sights and sounds. His interest in analog and digital technologies and techniques has contributed to building his creative brand and distinguishing his work. Soon to graduate with a major in Integrative Art and minors in Entrepreneurship and Innovation + Photography, Sebastian continues to eagerly broaden his creative horizons and sees opportunity in every experience.

“Spring Broke” is a compilation of videos recorded on personal Mini-DV video and overlaid news footage from inside a COVID-19 infirmary. The project was completed at the very beginning of what we’ve come to know as the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, when Sebastian was on a Spring Break trip to Montreal, Canada.

This project was also submitted to the Penn State University Archive’s COVID-19 Experience project, which collected student experiences during the beginning of our quarantine. The accompanying audio is self-produced and works to reflect the uncertainty and eeriness of the imagery we were exposed to in the early months of the outbreak.
