Today, we are featuring two films created by Abby McCormick, a senior Film Production major at Penn State!

“matter of time”

“‘matter of time’ is a found footage compilation of my family’s forgotten home movie tapes,” says McCormick. “I wanted to represent the heartbreaking realization of growing up and forgetting how we got to where we are. Life moves faster than our minds can keep up with, so our childhoods turn into muddled blurs and shards. This project is my way of reliving those memories.”

Music is “Matter of Time (interlude)” by Ashton Irwin. Made in December of 2020.

“The Arsonist”

*TRIGGER WARNING* “‘The Arsonist’ is a photo roman inspired by a creative nonfiction piece I wrote about contemplating suicide,” says McCormick.  “My mind couldn’t process the idea in its raw form, so these thoughts represented themselves as wanting to burn down an empty house.”

Made in October of 2020.

Abby McCormick writes, films, and edits all of her own projects. The inspiration for her work mostly comes from her own writing, whether it be poetry, creative nonfiction, or short stories. Her projects often represent hard-to-swallow life experiences in abstract and creative ways. She loves when something she creates has a unique interpretation for every viewer because we all experience life differently. She will continue to write and create as she pursues a post-production and screenwriting career.
